Instagram Takes the Crown in Social Media Hierarchy

Instagram took the world by storm when it was launched in 2010. With increasing competition in the social media world with apps such as Twitter, Vine and Snapchat, Instagram has been able to maintain its title as one of the most favorable social media platforms against users.

Vine recently shut down because it wasn’t able to maintain its users due to competition with Instagram. Vine was a social media platform where users were able to make 6 second videos about whatever they’d like to entertain others. To counteract Vine 6 second videos Instagram updated to allow uses to make 15 second videos. Due to users switching and Instagram ability to make videos, Vine had to close down.

With Vine down, Snapchat and Instagram were left to go head to head. It has been reported by the CEO of Snapchat that Snapchat users are uploading stories less and less and some have stopped all together (Constine). The numbers of users would have been higher if it wasn’t for Instagram. With decreasing numbers in their users and stories the fear still remains if Snapchat will be able to maintain its stability with Instagram as its competitor.
