Google Unveils New Fact Check Service

The BBC reports that Google will be adding the fact check label with other news services. Google claims fact check will “shine a light on its efforts to divide fact from fiction”. The fact check label will appear next to news stories.

In the age of the hyper-polarized media outlets fact checking is a necessity. In this year’s presidential debates we’ve already seen Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton give completely opposing statements. Both these candidates claim to have facts on their side. This is why we need fact checkers. This is why we need fact checking services.

Unfortunately¬† Google is a company, and like every other company it has a bias, whether conscious or unconscious. It will be interesting to see how Google’s facts stand with everyone else’s.
