ExxonMobil and Apple have partnered to give customers a new method to pay for gas. Utilizing Apple’s contactless payment service, Apple Pay, customers can pay for their gas at select ExxonMobil gas stations across the country. The payments are made through Exxonmobil’s free app, Speedpass.
Here is a brief video demonstrating a transaction at a participating Exxonmobil station:
So, what does this all mean for customers?
The purpose of this service is to make paying at the gas pump quicker and more convenient. Traditionally, a customer would have to exit their car to swipe a credit or debit card and then enter any additional information before fueling. Now, they can simply select the pump they are at, then, using Apple Pay, pay using their fingerprint that is programmed on their iPhone. At full service gas stations, customers will not even have to leave their cars.
This service is available at 6,000 ExxonMobil locations across the U.S. It will be interesting to see if more fuel companies partner with Apply Pay at the gas pump, and if it will catch on with customers.
